I am an illustrator based in South-West London. I work mainly with watercolours and gouache but also with mixed media such as paper and magazine cuttings as well as digital art. The majority of what I make is in a smaller scale with intricate details.
My creations are typically whimsical, fun and light-hearted. Details taken from everyday life and creature comforts, including food, are recurring themes, such as in my series of condiments and drinks.
Having embraced the traditional Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, which encourages the recognition of beauty in simplicity, authenticity and imperfection, you’ll see anything but perfection in what I do. As I practice only freehand drawing, there are no straight lines, no preciseness and plenty of flaws to be found. I find it’s often these imperfections that make a piece come to life. If I get the feeling that I want to reach into a still life and grab something I know that I’ve achieved what I was hoping to.
I am Swedish, born and bred, but have spent half my life in London and so I’m necessarily as influenced by British life, culture and art as I am by the Swedish.
Typically nostalgic, a big source of inspiration is hand-painted children’s books busy with details, comics and die-cut paper scraps - the older the better. Attractive colour combinations or patterns often spark ideas, as do homely interiors. Other illustrators and artists inspire me more than anything.
I work freelance as a one-woman show and take on occasional commissions. I also run a small Etsy shop that is in constant development.
